Christmas 2017 Gift Guide

I can't believe it's already Christmas time, it has sprung up on us! That's why my Christmas Gift Guide is somewhat late, however I have made sure all these products are still available to order online until Christmas.

Oh My Fluffy Dog Shirts
These are the most comfortable shirts I have bought all year, and not only that, the designs are amazing! Whenever I wear these tops I get a load of compliments, the large designs really bring in attention. They are made here in New Zealand by an amazing couple and their three pooches. They are constantly bringing out new designs, and I have to say I have loved every single one and have purchased every design! These are the perfect gift for a dog or gym lover in your life.
Use the code "daisypets" for 15% off all their stock for the month of December.

Wolves of Wellington Bandanas
You guys already know how much I love these bandanas since I talk about them at every available opportunity. I find these the perfect gift for a dog in your life as a lot of people won't personally buy them for their dog, but would love to have one for their dog. You can also get the Letterman Bandana and make it personal by having the letter of their name on the bandana!
Use the code "DAISYPETS" for 15% off for the month of December.

Bow Wow Boutique Collars and Leash
This company will forever be my favourite leash and collar company. Alex is super nice, and will make sure she can do whatever in her power to make the perfect product for you. I always am gifting their products to friends and family as you can make it personal with the different fabrics. These are very long-wearing and durable products, and can cope with the most hard-wearing dog.
Quote "Daisy Pets" when ordering for free shipping until the 25th of December.

NZ Natural Pet Food Company Treats
I love these treats, and love how innovative they are. Diego also is a big fan of the flavour which is probably the most important part of a treat to the dog. They are made in New Zealand with natural ingredients and can be used as a meal or treat which is perfect for Summer adventures. I recommend giving these as a gift as they are quirky treats, especially for people who like going hiking or camping, and it's awesome to be able to gift an awesome New Zealand product to other dog owners.
Win your own pack of Woof dog treats! All you have to do is comment on either this Instagram Photo or this Facebook Post (or both) saying what is on your wishlist this Christmas. Make sure you are following both DaisyPets and NzNaturalPetFood on whichever social media you are using. Will be drawn on the 15th of December.

Bark Bag
Bark Bag is a subscription based delivery service where monthly they deliver your pooch a box of treats and toys. This is run in New Zealand and has a great range of healthy dog treats. For Christmas you can buy your own dog, or gift to another person a Christmas Bark Bag which contains amazing products, and is gift wrapped. Also, for every Bark Bag purchased they will give a rescue pup a meal.

Omega Plus Fish Oil
This is our favourite Fish Oil to add to Diego's diet, and gives your pooch a great boost of omega 3's and other nutrients. This is the perfect gift for your own pooch, or a friend's dog as a lot of people don't think to supplement their dogs diet, and this is the perfect product to introduce new nutrients into their dogs diet.

Kong Wobbler
One of our favourite boredom busters! Diego is absolutely in love with this toy, and I find it the perfect way to slow down his eating and encourage him to scavenge a bit more. It's great for all sizes of dogs, and even once they are used to it, still takes them time to get every piece of kibble out of. This is a great gift for Christmas as they are a bit pricey, but well worth every dollar.

Planet Dog Snoop
Another amazing boredom buster! We only recently got this and Diego has been crazy about it ever since. In the same theme as the Kong Wobbler, you put kibble in it and they have to work to get it out. This provides endless entertainment and can be made harder as your dog gets used to it. Diego also uses it as a chew toy afterwards, and can play fetch with it and it stands up to his constant chewing. They also provide replacements if your dog manages to chew through their products.

Daisy's Doggy Deli
Our favourite small New Zealand based treat business! Suzanne is amazing, and is super accommodating to all your dogs needs and preferences. She makes a range of treats, and all of them are as great as the next. Diego goes crazy for all her treats, and you don't have to feel bad feeding them as they are natural with no preservatives or nasties. I have gifted these to multiple people this year and everyone has said only great things.
Use the code "Daisypets" for 10% off your order for all of December.

Hope you enjoyed our gift guide. Was there anything you would have added to it?

Rambling Thoughts

Hey! I have a lot of thoughts rambling around in my brain so thought it would be good to write them down. If you are here for a review, you might want to skip this post, read my others and another dog product review will be out soon (Plus Christmas gift guides).

Today, I went to my mother's house in Upper Hutt for the last time. She has officially sold her home here, and really cemented her move to Whanganui. She has been living in Whanganui for the past two years but having the home here made it seem like she still was on a holiday. Now it is real. I am truly happy for her, even though it means I can't just pop around the corner to visit her whenever I please. She has shown that no matter your age or situation, you can change your life if you want to. I am so proud of her, moving to a new city seems like an impossible task to me who has been in Upper Hutt all my life. She has done it with grace and resilience, managing to get a new job she loves, work with kids that are absolutely infatuated with her and buy a new house on her own. She constantly inspires me, and has made me push to be a better person in all aspects of my life.

Because of the above I didn't think I would be upset by her selling her house. In all honesty I was quite happy to see the back of it. However, today as I closed the door for the last time and drove out of the driveway I was hit with a wall of sadness. This was officially closing a chapter of our lives. I had lived in and out of that home as mum had owned it, and got through some seriously dark times of my life there. It was a place of happiness, laughter and fun, and memories came flooding back to me as I reversed out of the drive.

I loved and lost Daisy within the walls of that house, and now she will be forever be there as she rests within its grounds. It's weird to think that we are moving on and leaving her behind, but I guess we will always be able to keep our memories of her alive within our hearts. I passed by her grave when leaving and although the Daisy we planted above her has now died (who decided to put a daisy in amongst trees where it gets no sun!), the circle of rocks still show me where she lays. I said my final goodbyes to her and left the grounds.

Life seems to come in chapters, and although the house in Upper Hutt has now officially closed, it's nice to know that a new chapter is opening up. Plus, all good books get better as you go on. I thought I might end up writing some inspiring, thought invoking things, but really I have none. I just think that we need to appreciate the times as we have time, but also, be able to look back fondly on memories that are now in the past.

If you got this far, well done for reading my completely raw, unedited and quickly typed up thoughts. I managed to dig out my hard drive to find some photos from that time.

NZ Natural Pet Food Co. Woof Treats

Hey! We got approached by The New Zealand Natural Pet Food Co. to trial some of their treats and see what we thought of them. As always, these reviews are 100% Diego's and I's honest opinion, and whether something was sent to us for free or purchased by myself it doesn't sway our opinion. Especially Diego's since he has no idea at what money means.

The lovely folk sent us two packs of their Woof Freeze Dried Dog Bites to try in the flavours Wild Brushtail and Lamb. Initial thoughts is that this packaging is effective! It is white with one main coloured image on the front of your meat/vegetables that make that treat up. The rest of the front is mainly black or muted coloured writing. I adore this type of packaging. It's a 'no bullshit' approach that I really appreciate. The back is just as effective, with a clear ingredient list, important notes including the benefits of ingredients chosen (and pictures) and what it contains none of. Props to whoever designed their packaging!

The treats are made up of 85% meat, organs and bones with the other 15% coming from vegetables and other natural ingredients that are amazing for your pooch. The first ingredient on both treats is just straight meat, lamb and wild brushtail, followed by more meat product like tripe, liver and heart. Following that is the fruits and vegetables, as well as organic virgin coconut oil, manuka honey, chia seeds, kelp, mussels and hoki liver oil. They contain no artificial preservatives, flavours or colours. No grain, gluten, wheat, corn or soy.

These treats have been freeze dried into little logs that remind me of some sort of animal poop. Due to the freeze drying they are super light weight, and easy to break into smaller pieces. Although it also means they can be quite crumbly/powdery especially when you get nearer to the bottom of the bag. These treats are perfect for hiking, or camping as they are light enough to carry in your pack and feed to your pooch as you are traveling as a treat but they can also be re-hydrated into an actual meal! This is such a new concept to me, and one I haven't seen before on the New Zealand pet food market. I love it! It works great for us, especially with Summer coming up, as we are often out hiking, exploring native bush and it's awesome that I can bring along food for Diego incase anything happens.

Changes from dry (top photo) to wet

Warning, these treats stink. Not as strong as a fish based treat, but more of a putrid smell that just gets into your nose. I may be sensitive about that though. Thankfully, the smell doesn't leak through the packaging and it's only when it is open can you smell them. They are more scented when wet. The smell also doesn't seem to stick to your hands, only the treats, and leaves your hands after a few moments.

Diego adores these treats. He loves when I get them out, and because of their freeze dried texture, he chews them easily. They are great for trick training for that reason, especially when you are training a new trick and want to overload your dog with tiny treats constantly. There isn't that time waiting for him to chew and digest the treat before giving the next, it happens pretty fast. They are also good for when out on our walks and we are working on his leash reactivity. They are smelly and enticing enough to make him leave a dog for them. That is a winner in my books.

I have decided that I am going to buy another packet to leave unopened to take on all our longer hikes this Summer. This way they won't go old, but will be there in case we get trapped somewhere and can't make it home for Diego's usual meal time. I really appreciate that this company is shaking up the treat industry in New Zealand by making an innovative new treat, with amazing quality ingredients. I think for too long New Zealand has been run by big corporates who don't really care about your dogs wellbeing and put out treats like rawhide and dentastix! (There goes any future collaboration with them hehe) I enjoy that these treats have been made with a range of different uses, and realistic uses at that. I would highly recommend you try out these treats with your pup!
